Guides

You can trek independently or ask for a guide if you make arrangements with an outdoor organisation for the whole trip. For independent travel the PoB and some other routes are waymarked but the standard of waymarking is variable and in wooded areas or in misty weather route finding can be tricky. For a larger group which can afford it a guide adds considerably to the enjoyment of the trek, not just in finding the way but more importantly as a source of information and insight into the whole environment: ecology, history, politics, people and culture. A guide usually costs 100 euros a day.
